Cold Room Shelving Systems

Cold room shelving and rack systems - how to choose

Cold room shelving and rack systems help use the wall space of CRPF and CRNF rooms efficiently while keeping a practical aisle and organised stock. The current SaldymoSprendimai.lt category uses original TEFCOLD “Shelf Rack System Kit” sets. The key rule is simple: these kits are not universal and should not be selected from approximate shelf dimensions alone.

The correct selection key is the exact cold-room model - for example CRPF1521 or CRNF2130 - together with the TEFCOLD item number assigned to that kit. Each set is configured around the wall lengths, door area and internal layout of the compatible room. In some cases TEFCOLD officially approves one kit for two closely related room models, so compatibility should always be confirmed from the product name and manufacturer data.

TEFCOLD states a maximum load of 90 kg per shelf and 450 kg per two racks for current shelf-rack kits. Shelf sections are removable and dishwasher safe, which supports hygienic use in professional food-storage environments.

Quick selection guide

What to check

Recommendation

You already have a CRPF room

Exact room model, e.g. CRPF1521

Choose a kit whose compatibility explicitly lists the same CRPF model

You already have a CRNF room

Exact room model, e.g. CRNF2130

Use only a kit officially assigned to that CRNF model

One kit lists 2 rooms

Both models in the product name / TEFCOLD page

This is an approved shared fit; e.g. item 46218 fits CRNF1212 / CRNF1215

WD room

Door position and separate compatibility

Do not automatically assign the standard-room rack kit; verify compatibility separately

Room model unknown

Order, invoice, product label or documentation

Identify the exact model first; dimensions alone are not enough

1. Select by exact room model, not by “similar size”

The CRPF or CRNF room model is the most reliable way to identify the correct rack kit. If the room is already installed, check the model on the order, invoice, product label or technical documentation.

Two rooms with similar external dimensions may have different internal wall lengths or door positions. A rack chosen only because it looks similar may block the aisle, fail to fit a wall or interfere with the door and airflow zone.

2. CRPF and CRNF are different cold-room families

CRPF is the positive-temperature cold-room range, while CRNF is the freezer-room range. The rack category contains separately assigned “Shelf Rack System Kit” products for both families.

Do not automatically assume that a CRPF and CRNF room with the same external footprint use the same kit. The thicker CRNF insulation changes internal dimensions, so the manufacturer compatibility must be checked.

3. The TEFCOLD item number is the second reliable key

Every kit has a specific TEFCOLD item number such as 45709, 46214 or 46218. When working from a quotation or manufacturer document, the item number identifies the exact set regardless of language or product title.

On SaldymoSprendimai.lt it is useful to show both the compatible room model and the item number in the product title so the buyer can verify the match before ordering.

4. One kit may sometimes fit more than one room

For some closely related rooms the manufacturer officially lists the same rack kit. Item 46218, for example, is specified for CRNF1212 / CRNF1215.

Use such shared compatibility only when it is explicitly stated on the TEFCOLD product page or documentation. Do not infer the same result from model numbers alone.

5. WD rooms require a separate compatibility check

WD rooms have a wider door and a fixed door position, so the internal layout differs from the corresponding standard room. A standard CRPF / CRNF rack kit should therefore not be automatically assigned to the WD version.

If no separate rack kit is clearly listed for a WD model, leave compatibility unconfirmed and verify it individually rather than guessing from dimensions.

6. Shelf load and real storage planning

TEFCOLD states up to 90 kg per shelf and up to 450 kg per two racks for current Shelf Rack System Kit products. This provides a useful basis for planning boxes, GN containers and packaged stock without overloading one shelf.

Distribute the load evenly and also consider the cold-room floor load limit. A rack load rating does not mean the entire weight should be concentrated at one point.

7. Hygiene and cleaning

TEFCOLD states that shelf pieces are removable and dishwasher safe. This is useful in food-storage environments where packaging debris, spills and dirt must be removed regularly.

Coordinate cleaning with stock rotation and use cleaning agents compatible with the manufacturer instructions so the shelf surfaces are not damaged.

8. Keep refrigeration airflow clear

Cold-room performance depends on free air movement around the stored products and unobstructed evaporator intake and discharge zones. Rack systems help create structure, but should not be loaded right up to the evaporator or ceiling.

Keep the required air zones clear, do not block the doorway and avoid pressing packages tightly against the room walls. Even the correct rack kit can be used badly if the room is overfilled.

9. Aisle space is part of usable capacity

Maximum theoretical shelf area is not always the most efficient layout. Staff still need to enter safely, reach products, turn around and, where relevant, move a trolley through the room.

Evaluate not only how many boxes fit on shelves but also how quickly staff can find and replenish products. Better access can reduce the time the cold-room door remains open.

10. Plan shelving together with the cold room

If the room has not yet been ordered, select the rack kit at the same time. Door position, refrigeration-unit panel, shelving walls and the central aisle can then be planned as one system.

This reduces the risk of discovering after assembly that the selected layout interferes with trolley access, stock rotation or service access.

11. FIFO / FEFO and stock organisation

Rack systems are more than extra shelf area. Clear zones make it easier to apply FIFO or FEFO principles, separate raw materials from prepared products and identify stock approaching its expiry date.

Fixed storage locations and simple labels are especially useful when the same room is used by several employees or shifts.

12. When are custom racks more appropriate?

An original TEFCOLD kit is convenient with a standard CRPF / CRNF room and the manufacturer-planned layout. Custom racks may be needed for a bespoke room, unusual containers, pallets or a different storage method.

In that case dimensions, materials, hygiene, loads and airflow must be engineered separately. A custom system should not be presented as a direct TEFCOLD replacement without checking the application.

13. Related products should link both ways

The best buying experience is for each cold-room page to show the exact compatible rack kit and for each rack page to link back to the room or rooms it fits. This reduces ordering errors.

If one item number officially fits two rooms, both should be shown in compatibility. If compatibility is unverified, it is better not to display it.

14. Practical ordering sequence

1) identify the exact CRPF / CRNF room model; 2) find the Shelf Rack System Kit assigned to that model; 3) confirm the TEFCOLD item number; 4) check whether the room is a WD version; 5) plan aisle space, airflow and realistic shelf loads.

If compatibility is unclear at any stage, verify it from manufacturer documentation or with the refrigeration supplier before ordering.

Frequently asked questions - EN

Can I choose a rack only from the cold-room dimensions?

Not recommended. The safest method is the exact CRPF / CRNF room model plus the TEFCOLD item number.

Does the same rack fit CRPF and CRNF rooms of the same size?

Not necessarily. CRNF uses thicker insulation and different internal dimensions, so manufacturer compatibility must be confirmed.

Why does item 46218 fit two rooms?

TEFCOLD explicitly lists CRNF1212 / CRNF1215. This is an official shared-kit case.

What is the maximum load per shelf?

TEFCOLD currently states up to 90 kg per shelf for these rack kits.

What is the total load for two racks?

The manufacturer states up to 450 kg per two racks. Distribute weight evenly.

Are the shelves dishwasher safe?

TEFCOLD states that the removable shelf sections are dishwasher safe.

Are rack systems included with the cold room?

Normally no. CRPF / CRNF product information lists shelves as an accessory unless a quotation explicitly says otherwise.

Can racks be installed after the room is assembled?

Usually yes, but it is better to plan the layout before ordering the room so aisle space and airflow are correct.

Can racks be loaded right up to the evaporator?

No. Keep evaporator intake and discharge areas clear and follow the room manufacturer instructions.

Should I fill every wall with shelving?

Not always. The central aisle, door zone, trolley movement and quick access to stock are part of an efficient layout.

Does a standard rack kit automatically fit a WD room?

No. WD door position and layout differ, so compatibility must be checked separately.

How do I find my cold-room model?

Check the order, invoice, product label or technical documentation for the full code such as CRPF2124 or CRNF1830.

Can I use universal stainless-steel shelving instead?

A different storage system can be engineered, but it is no longer the model-specific TEFCOLD Shelf Rack System Kit and must be checked separately for dimensions, loads and airflow.

What should I do if I cannot find a rack kit for my room?

Do not guess from a similar model. Verify manufacturer compatibility or ask the supplier to check the exact room model.
