ITV CALKLIN 1000: ice-machine descaling

CALKLIN 1000 is a larger 1 kg descaler pack for larger water circuits or intensive ice-machine maintenance. It is convenient when a prescribed procedure requires more solution.

CALKLIN removes scale and mineral deposits from the water circuit. Deposits can restrict flow and heat transfer. Filtration reduces some causes of contamination or scaling but does not eliminate cleaning requirements.

How often?

Plan maintenance and an assessment of cleaning needs at least every six months. ITV's NG R290 instructions require at least six-monthly inspection and cleaning. Follow the exact procedure for other models. Hard water or faster deposit formation requires earlier descaling.

An annual interval in older documents is not universal guidance for every machine. Daily bin, scoop and ice-contact hygiene is separate.

Dosing by concentration and circuit volume

The manufacturer's DELTA / ORION / ICE QUEEN CALKLIN method specifies 50 g per litre of water. Apply this where the procedure calls for it; newer exact-model instructions and the chemical label take precedence.

Examples at that concentration: 1 litre of water needs 50 g; 2 litres 100 g; 4 litres 200 g. A whole 1 kg pack corresponds mathematically to 20 litres of water at this ratio, not automatically to one cleaning.

Calculate grams required = specified g/l concentration × litres of water needed by the procedure. Where several fresh fills are required, include all of them. Daily ice output alone does not determine cleaning-circuit volume.

Pack and machine selection

• DELTA / ORION / ICE QUEEN with the corresponding method: 50 g/l is stated; total amount depends on the prescribed water volume.
• Smaller or medium production: separate 200 g packs are convenient, but a full sachet is not a universal model dose.
• Larger modular equipment, including IQF or SCALA: a 1 kg format can suit higher consumption; the exact concentration, volume and cycle must come from that model's instructions.

If the manual does not state the amount, provide the exact model and serial number to service personnel. For IQF and SCALA, select the dose from the exact circuit and cleaning instructions rather than daily output alone.

Differences between series

IQN / IQF: the 2026 instructions specify 10 litres of solution: 5 for hand washing and 5 for the circuit. They name ScaleKleen; service personnel must confirm CALKLIN substitution and concentration. Do not automatically apply 50 g/l. Check your equipment version.

SCALA: circuit-cleaning guidance is six months for hard water or twelve in normal conditions. General hygiene maintenance is separate; determine the CALKLIN quantity for the exact installation.

Operating principle

1. Prepare: remove ice, switch off, isolate water and drain the circuit as instructed.
2. Mix: use the prescribed concentration, water volume and temperature.
3. Run the cleaning cycle: circulate in the specified mode. The general DELTA / ORION / ICE QUEEN method includes an approximately 20-minute stage; this is not a universal total cleaning time.
4. Drain and rinse: complete every specified rinse and fresh-fill stage.
5. Return to service: restore supplies and normal mode, discarding the initial ice specified for that model. Do not use ice made during cleaning.

Controls differ by model and version. Qualified service personnel carry out dismantling or internal electrical work. Use label-specified protection and do not mix CALKLIN with chlorine-based or other cleaners.

Does it replace sanitising?

No. Descaling and sanitising have different functions. Where specified, sanitise separately after appropriate rinsing using a compatible food-equipment product and procedure.
