In a flower shop, a refrigerator has a much bigger role than simply maintaining a lower temperature. It should help preserve flower quality, reduce waste, make everyday work easier for the florist and become an attractive part of the retail display.

What makes its approach to flower refrigeration particularly interesting, however, is not simply the company's manufacturing experience. One of the clearest examples is the additional platform available for RAPA flower refrigerators. Several florists independently suggested raising the flower display so that flowers positioned at the bottom of the refrigerator would be more visible to customers. RAPA designed the platform, tested it and then introduced it into its regular range of options.
Earlier, following comments from business partners, RAPA separated its flower refrigerator concept into two models – SCh-AK and SCh-AKM. One is particularly suited to tall cut flowers and arrangements, while the other provides greater flexibility through adjustable shelving. Both can be configured to match the requirements of an individual flower shop.
The SCh-AKM range was later expanded with shelves featuring dedicated openings for flower containers, allowing both finished bouquets and individual flowers for future arrangements to be conveniently displayed in the same refrigerator.
This illustrates an important part of RAPA's philosophy: rather than designing a product once and leaving it unchanged, the company observes how the equipment is used in real flower shops and develops it based on practical experience.
RAPA's connection with the professional floristry sector can also be seen at major international events. In 2022 the company participated in the Europa Cup European Floristry Championship, where a RAPA flower refrigerator was awarded to championship winner Hanneke Frankema. RAPA's stand also became a meeting point for florists and flower shop owners from different countries, including existing users who shared their experience with the equipment.
The manufacturer has also actively sought feedback from leading professional florists, including European Vice-Champion Gábor Nagy, himself a user of a RAPA flower refrigerator.
At the World Cup Floral Art 2025 in The Hague, RAPA met florists, designers and flower shop owners from around the world. Such meetings are not only about presenting equipment – they also help the manufacturer understand the practical challenges facing florists and the direction in which the market is moving.
For us, this matters when evaluating professional equipment. The product is not being developed by refrigeration engineers alone – its evolution is also influenced by people who actually arrange and sell flowers.
RAPA has tested this question in practice. In a comparative test, flowers from the same supply batch were kept both inside a flower refrigerator and at room temperature with comparable care. RAPA reports that selected cut flower species remained saleable considerably longer under refrigerated conditions – in some test cases up to six times longer, while an earlier trial found some flowers remaining in good condition for up to 18 days.
This should not be treated as a universal guarantee for every flower species, as results depend on the type of flower, its initial condition and subsequent care, but it clearly demonstrates the importance of suitable temperature and humidity.
Real flower shops tell a similar story. Anna Czekała of the Brzozowy Zakątek flower shops explained that before installing RAPA refrigerators, flowers had to be discarded practically every day. After introducing refrigerated storage, losses fell considerably, while some flowers, including carnations, could remain in good condition for up to a week when properly cared for. She also specifically praised RAPA for listening to customer suggestions.
Experienced florist and industry consultant Andrzej Dąbrowski goes even further, saying that he cannot imagine operating a flower shop without refrigeration. After installing a RAPA flower refrigerator in his business, the amount of roses being discarded was significantly reduced, lowering the direct cost of waste.
Flowers are an extremely visual product, so RAPA pays considerable attention to presentation. Panoramic tempered glass, LED lighting, platforms of different heights, adjustable shelves, optional internal mirrors, different housing colours and door configurations make it possible to integrate the refrigerator into the design of an individual flower shop.
RAPA has also presented flower refrigerator concepts inspired by interior design and visual merchandising trends. The principle is simple: the equipment should not compete visually with the flowers. It should create a calm background that allows the colours and arrangements to become the focus.
A professional flower refrigerator does not have to be hidden in the back room. It can become one of the main displays in the sales area. Customers see more flowers, the products are presented professionally and the retailer can maintain a broader assortment with less concern that unsold flowers will immediately become waste.
